Is Google Web Designer Good for Creating Websites?

What is web designing?

Web designing often refers to the creation of the front-end of the website, i.e. the interface that is visible to the public with which you interact to perform functions. So web design Houston includes all the graphics, information, ads and other multimedia that you see on a webpage.

Web designers often require a thorough knowledge of programming languages like CSS and Java and markup languages like HTML and XML. One needs to get trained and obtain a certification in these languages to make a career in web designing.

However, in 2013, Google launched its Google Web Designer, with claims that even the novice and beginners can design their own website easily and effectively. Google Web Designer was marketed as a web developing platform for the creation of HTML5 web designs that are interactive.

What are the benefits of Google Web Designer?

Some of the claims made about the Google Web Designerwere that it is simple to use for beginners and that the designs would have a fluid layout. This essentially means that the design of the website will adjust in proportions to fit the screen size of a variety of devices. Google Web Designer allows assigning percentages for the measures of length and breadth of elements. So you do not have to repeatedly assign various measures of length and breadth for different devices.

Another advantage provided by Google Web Designer is that it allows for highly interactive and responsive web designs. This means that it provides you with greater functionality and keeps the user engaged. There is an element of creativity involved in an interactive and responsive web design, and Google Web Designer allows one to create customization in the design and create new custom actions in JavaScript. Moreover, it has a 3D Stage Rotate tool that allows you to view an element on all sides; this allows for a more 3D designing environment.

You are also provided with a number of animation options and a rich color gradient for your elements. You can also make custom swatches and complex gradients.

Google Web Designer cleverly uses your Google Drive to convert a document into an HTML file. You can simply upload the page to Google Drive and export it to Google Web Designer and it is automatically converted to HTML.

Another important advantage of using Google Web Designeris that it provides reusable objects. Suppose you have an element or a group of elements across several web pages of the website. If you wish to make changes in these elements, you need only make a change in one place – this change will then be reflected in all the places. This reduces the amount of work a designer has to do.

However, there are certain drawbacks…

For all its features and facilities, users have often found the interface and control panel of the designer to be too cluttered and heavy-looking.

Another complaint that users have with Google Web Designeris that one cannot create HTML files in the designer unless they have been created in Google Web Designer itself. This is a key hindrance for designers who wish to integrate features from different sources and tools.

Moreover, in order to work effectively with GoogleWeb Designer, some basic knowledge of coding and programming is necessary, so it cannot be said that it’s easy to use for complete beginners. This raises questions that if a person needs to be skilled in CSS and JavaScript to use Google Web Designer, why use it in the first place?

Experts in the industry are of the opinion that Google Web Designer is better suited as an ‘ad designer’ rather than a web designer, in fact, Google Web Designer is a great tool for creating animation ad banners.
